Just before the crazy-ness of finals week, we came together with good friends and dates at Waco's beautiful Cameron Park for our Spring 2015 Take-A-Date. We had a cookout right by the Brazos river, played games, and visited with each other before taking off for the summer.

On April 25th, Phi Xi hosted our annual Spaghetti Dinner at Austin Avenue Baptist Church before the School of Music's President's Concert. At the event, guests got some tasty spaghetti (with either red, white, or our "signature" pink sauce), texas toast garlic bread, salad, and desserts from our bake sale. All proceeds go towards our "Music for a Better Future Scholarship" that benefits school children in the Waco area who need funding for private lessons. This April, we had the great pleasure of initiating 5 new members into our fraternity! We are so excited about the coming school year with these talented and wonderful ladies. Congratulations to Rachel Frederiksen, Tori Thibodeaux, Ashley Bogisch, Tori Dinan, and Haley Peeler! This year, instead of doing our typical formal with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, we decided to have a formal for the entire School of Music. It was a big task, and after many months of planning it all came together. We decided to make the formal a 1920's/Gatsby theme, which actually fit very well because the Baylor School of Music was founded in 1921! The formal was on the 5th floor of the Cashion Building on campus. We had black and gold decorations, a jazz combo playing, fancy finger foods, and of course, the Sinfonia punch that they make for the BSO receptions. We had a photo booth at the event, and there ended up being about 400 pictures taken. So, here is a sample of some of the photo booth pictures below. Enjoy! One of the main things that our fraternity is committed to is service to our school, Baylor University, and the Waco community. One of our service projects this year was a joint project with BUMEA (Baylor University Music Educators Association) called "Classroom Clean-up". The goal is to help a music teacher in the area who needs help with their decorating and/or renovating their music classroom because of lack of funding. This time, we were helping out the choir director at Robinson Junior High. She was just restarting the choir program at the school and was left with an empty room with hardly any supplies. We wanted to help make this classroom one that was fun and engaging for the students. We painted the main wall with the school colors of blue and white, made posters, painted shelves, and decorated the room with crafty things we made. With just one day's work, the classroom was completely turned around! It was no longer a plain and lonely room, but instead, an exciting place to learn! In early April, we had our Big & Little Reveal Night! This is when our pledges finally got to meet their Bigs, who had been secret during the entire pledging process. As always, we had many alumni present who wanted to be here for such a special and important event. During the reveal, our new members get to meet their big (or bigs) and their family. Each family has their own colors and traditions. They are presented with their new family shirt and a gift basket full of treats, crafts, Mu Phi shirts, family heirlooms, and other goodies! A few days after our formal interviews, we initiated 5 new pledges: (from left) Rachel Frederiksen, Tori Dinan, Ashley Bogisch, Haley Peeler, and Tori Thibodeaux! In late February, after all of our rush events, we had our Formal Interviews/Formal Tea in the McCrary Music Building. We had finger foods, sweet tea (because Texas), and got a chance to interview the potential members and talk about why they wanted to join our fraternity. It is one of Baylor's many traditions to go tortilla tossing at the famous Waco Suspension Bridge, so we thought it would be a great idea for a Rush event! In late January, we had our Spring 2015 Interest Meeting in the McCrary Music Building. Our Vice Presidents went over important information about Rush and talked about our chapter and Mu Phi Epsilon in general. Members shared their favorite memories of Mu Phi and had fun playing games and mixers with the students in attendance. |
