During the Christmas season, the Phi Xi Chapter does a couple different service projects benefiting the Waco community. One of the projects we do is our "Christmas Door Decorating", a fundraiser for Music For A Better Future Scholarship. Professors in the School of Music make donations to the scholarship, and in return, we decorate their doors for Christmas. Our other project is making fleece blankets that we donate to Mission Waco's "Church Under The Bridge" program for Waco's homeless. We make these blankets during our last meeting of the semester. It's a fun way to give back to the community. Also, for the first time this year, we are participating in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia's (Gamma Iota Chapter) "Mill's Music Mission" where we will be doing a Christmas Concert at St. Elizabeth's Place in Waco.

Last night, the Phi Xi chapter had the great privilege of initiating two new members for the Fall 2015 semester! Welcome to the family, Lee Ashlee and Lorin! We are so happy to have you, and we cannot wait for all the great memories we will have together. On October 16th, we had our "BIG & little Reveal" night where our two pledges, Lee Ashlee and Lorin found out who their bigs are and what family they are in. There are different families in our chapter, and each family has their own colors and traditions (it's kinda like Harry Potter houses). Lee Ashlee joined the Plaid Family with Big, Ashley Bogisch. Lorin joined the Purple and Gray Family with Big, Tori Dinan. *Below are pictures of the the P&G and Plaid Families and also some other families in the chapter. "Coffee Friday" was started a few years ago by our chapter as a way to raise money for our Music for a Better Future Scholarship which provides free lessons for the year to some Waco school children on their instrument or voice. Every Friday, members of the newest pledge class are in charge of setting up the table with the coffee pot, creamers and sugar, cups, napkins and Shipley's Donuts. We sell the coffee and donuts for a dollar each. This seemingly simple idea has actually allowed us to raise a lot of money over the years for this scholarship, and it had now become a beloved tradition in the Baylor School of Music. At the beginning of the school year I always have people asking me, "When is Coffee Friday starting up again??". Students just love the idea of getting a morning treat and coffee on their way to and from classes, AND the idea that it is going towards a great cause to promote music in our community!
Yesterday morning, members of the Phi Xi Chapter went out to Cameron Park to clean up and pick up trash. After working, we had a picnic lunch at the park! We wanted to help keep our city's park beautiful, especially as more people will be going out there as the weather improves. This is just one of the many service projects that we do to serve the Waco community. This event was led by our Chaplain and Service Chair, Esther Nyangani.
On September 26th, we hosted our Fall Take-A-Date at the local Skate World skating rink. Our social chair, Ashley Fincher, put together the whole event! We had the whole place to ourselves and there were about 50 people in attendance. Everyone wore neon and other bright clothes, had snacks, skated, and re-lived the good part of our junior high days! :p Here are some pictures from the event! On September 15th, the Phi Xi Chapter initiated two new pledges for the Fall 2015 semester! This Fall, Lorin Mott and Lee Ashlee Fletcher will go through the pledging process to learn about Mu Phi Epsilon's history, values, and goals, and eventually become members themselves! At the end of our Fall 2015 Rush Week, we had our "Formal Interviews" with those who were able to pledge in the Fall. We interviewed 3 candidates: Lorin Mott (Sophomore, Clarinet, Music Education), Lee Ashlee Fletcher (Sophomore, Flute, Music Ed), and John Shaw (Freshman, Bassoon, Music Ed with Dance minor). John Shaw will be pledging in the Spring semester, and will be our chapter's first male member! We are so excited for our new pledge candidates!
